Why Evaluate Bulls?
A herd sire contributes half the genetics to every calf he sires and may influence dozens of calves each year. His impact can remain in the herd even longer through retained daughters. Selecting the right bull is therefore one of the most important genetic decisions a beef producer makes.

Evaluating bulls under common management helps separate meaningful performance differences from those caused by environment and management. Combined with EPDs and genomic information, measurements of growth, feed efficiency, carcass merit, breeding soundness, and structure give producers more information to choose bulls that fit their production goals.

Our Program Objectives
The MCA-MSU Bull Evaluation Program is a cooperative effort of the Michigan Cattlemen's Association, Michigan State University, and Wernette Cattle Co. Its objectives are to:

Promote performance-evaluated beef cattle and demonstrate the value of objective performance information.
Provide a common environment for evaluating young bulls for growth, feed efficiency, soundness, and carcass merit.
Help beef producers obtain bulls thoroughly evaluated for traits important to profitable beef production.
